Yuca vs. Yucca

What is the difference between Yuca and Yucca? While Yuca is simply a Spanish word for Cassava, the word ‘Yucca’ (with 2 c’s) refers to shrubs or trees that vary considerably from Yuca. There are many species of Yucca, but they typically have sword-like leaves, reside in arid climates, and do not produce edible tubers. Still, Yucca is a frequent misspelling of Yuca on restaurant menus and on food packaging, whereas Yuca, or Cassava, is what is actually being offered.
